About Detroit Airport

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is a significant international airport and the busiest airport in Michigan, stretching on 6,700 acre in the Romulus area of Detroit. Delta Air Lines use it as the second largest hub and SkyTeam or Spirit Airlines have also important flights here. DTW is extremely important for the Detroit tourism. Year 2010 recorded it as the 16th US airport in terms of passenger traffic.

The airport construction was completed in 1929 and it was used for military operations during the war. After 1947 there were significant expansions of this facility, with the addition of three new runways. The airport third terminal was constructed in 1974 and several other runways were added. Further airport transformations and modernization are taken into account.

Michael Berry Terminal opened in year 1974 and closed in 2008. After its closure it has housed numerous TV productions, including movies as “Up in the Air” or “Machine Gun Preacher”. Another older terminal is L.C. Smith, which has recently been vacated due to maintenance costs. The historic James M. Davey Terminal was also replaced by the North Terminal and most of its facilities were demolished.

The new Edward H. McNamara Terminal accommodates 3 concourses with numerous shopping and dining places. Hotel Westin has direct connection to the terminal and its guests can obtain easy access to the concourse shops and restaurants.
